Goma, One Year Later — A Note from the US Board

Dear Friends of TransformDRC,

This week marks one year since the M23 rebel offensive reached Goma. For many in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the passage of time has not brought resolution but rather a prolonged season of uncertainty, displacement, and grief. The conflict, which intensified in late January 2025, continues to shape daily life for communities across North Kivu Province.

And yet the work has not stopped. On the ground in Eastern DRC, our local leadership team and staff continue to serve with courage and deep pastoral care—walking alongside pastors, women, youth, and vulnerable families who have nowhere else to turn.

Over the past year, TransformDRC has been actively engaged in:

    • Training pastors and women leaders in biblical leadership and trauma healing.

    • Providing trauma-healing support to hundreds of pastors and women leaders in and around Goma.

    • Supporting displaced families and church leaders with food relief after thousands were forced to flee.

    • Restoring access to clean water where safe water had disappeared overnight.

    • Caring for vulnerable children, including orphaned children whose parents were killed in the violence.

    • Empowering women and youth through vocational training and leadership development—thereby investing in long-term hope.

In October, a senior leader from TransformDRC visited the United States and spent time with churches and friends. This was a chance to share stories face to face and remind one another that this work is not abstract: It is carried out by people whose lives are bound to the communities they serve.

We are sharing this update to invite remembrance and continued partnership. As we mark this anniversary, we ask you to:

    • Pray for peace and protection—for the TransformDRC team and the communities they serve.

    • Remember that the crisis did not end after the headlines faded.

    • Consider partnering with us financially to support this faithful presence in a place where hope is urgently needed.  Donate here

Thank you for standing with TransformDRC in this season.

With gratitude and hope,
TransformDRC Board of Directors
