“It is with tears of joy I say thank you! You can see how these children are singing, dancing and jumping for joy because of what you have done for them. We have seen God in you.” — Global Bright Children Orphanage Director
Global Bright Children Orphanage cares for 76 vulnerable children whose parents were killed in the fighting during the takeover of their village by the M23 Rebel Force. Due to insecurity, these children were relocated to a plot of land in Goma, where TransformDRC Staff became aware of their critical needs for shelter, food and clothing.
The children were living in very poor conditions without proper shelter, lacking enough mattresses, water cans, blankets, cooking pots, cups and bowls. They also had no access to clean drinking water.
The lives of these children were greatly improved when Water Is Basic, a TransformDRC partner, provided a 5,000-liter water tank filled with drinking water and equipped with a rain catchment system, as well as funds to build 2 dormitories (one for girls and one for boys). The dormitories were equipped with solar electricity, mattresses, blankets, and bed sheets. Ten Toilets were also built (5 for boys and 5 for girls).
The school-aged children were recently supplied with 2 school uniforms, shoes and school fees that allow them to be educated. They are now able to look just like other children that attend school.
As funds are available, TransformDRC also provides food and other basic needs to these children.
Most recently, washing stations were provided which will be a significant help to the prevention of waterborne diseases and the fight against epidemics, particularly Ebola, which is now a threat.
The Bright Children Orphanage team sends their sincere gratitude to those that care about the most vulnerable. These gifts enrich the children’s lives in the areas of health, education, child protection, and food security.
